Significance of Doing Garage Makeover

Some say that doing garage makeover is nothing but luxury that you can do when you can’t find anything to do with your money. On the surface, it actually looks like that such is the case. But in reality, it is definitely far beyond that because it too has its own fair share of advantages and benefits.

An example of which is significance. As a matter of fact, this practice proved to be very useful for you should a certain scenario comes up in the near future. The following are but some of them:

1. Increase in Real Estate Market Value

Selling a house is difficult especially this time that many builders are pushing smaller apartment units especially in highly urbanised areas. You have to make your house very attractive to your potential buyers, and that means having a garage.

But what if your buyer has also found another house with a garage? How would you sell your house over the other? Here comes the time when makeover is really needed. If your garage looks better than the other, you will definitely have the advantage even if the selling price is a little higher.

2. Instant Maintenance

When you go for makeovers, this means that you would be able to check the weak parts of your garage which is normally done with regular maintenance. But the difference with regular maintenance and makeover is great especially if you hire contractors to do the latter.

These contractors are well experienced and know the weak parts of your garage. You may not notice some of those, but contractors would. They can also verify some signs which may not look critical to us. Thus, going for a makeover is also an instant maintenance measure.

3. Cleaning is also conducted

It is already understood that cleaning is also conducted once you have a makeover. All the unnecessary things are taken away, and cluttering is taken care of. Of course, all the items that have to be disposed should be allowed by you.

The makeover will definitely do a big change towards the appearance of your garage. You will see a great change especially if your garage is usually cluttered.

4. Family Inspiration

Hard work is a value that should be taught by parents to their children. Such can be taught as you do your everyday tasks with them. You garage is a very excellent place where you can do such. It should be organised and clean at the same time.

Being stuck indoors due to the cold wintry weather can have it advantages, it could see you reviewing the storage space in and around the home.

If you’re stuck indoors because of the cold wintry weather sweeping across the British Isles, then why not use this time to your advantage by reviewing and clearing the storage space and areas around your home. This task can be frustrating due to the time and effort it takes, but it is also important in keeping the home neat and tidy. So,with time on your hands why put it off any longer?

Perhaps you want to start by going through each of the rooms one by one, removing any old and unused items from wardrobes, drawers, cupboards, cabinets, toy chests (I suggest, letting the children help, especially when it come to their own personal space and things) and don’t forget the garage. Garages are now often used as the main storage area in many households. Here, all too often they are crammed with items which have just been left there. My guess is, with the door close it a matter of out of sight, out of mind!

As you work your way through the rooms try to sort items into piles. Have a pile for things which can be donated to charity, one for items which can be recycled and another for things which are no longer useful and can therefore be thrown away. Having carried out this all important task you should begin to feel a firm sense of achievement as the home becomes steadily free of junk and clutter. To keep this feeling alive for more than a day or two, then give some thought on how best to keep the storage space around the home neat and organised at all time.

One way of doing so is by investing in good storage components, not just for the home but for the the garage too. Using the internet to view garage makeovers videos and witness how much of an impact these makeovers can have on your home and save you time. They make storing everyday items much easier and locating them a breeze. Garage shelving, cabinets and other components provides convenient and practical ways to store all the things you wish to keep neat and safe effortlessly.

Being stuck indoors may not be much fun, but if you used the time wisely you could well be making plans to installing a garage storage system immediately after the snow thaws, helping to keep the storage space around your home organised and clutter free from now on.

How to Expand Your Garage Storage

Do you think you have already done almost all techniques when it comes to organising your garage? If you did then you would never have problems with your garage storage by now. However, there are a lot of garage owners who are still having issues keeping their items safely as they don’t know how to expand their storage.

If you are like them, you may not have really exhausted everything that could be done. Below are some suggestions that you can follow to increase the number of items your storage can accommodate:

1. Utilize the ceiling

The ceiling is a perfect place to store some of your items. There isn’t traffic there compared to what your flooring has. There is no competition with other furniture and at the same time, there will be no clutter. Your ceiling’s area is just like your flooring’s, only that everything can be used for storage.

There are hanging racks which are perfect for your ceiling. These racks can vary in size and strengths. They are designed with strong attachments to make sure they don’t fall off when heavy items are placed.

However, it is recommended that you only use these racks with light items, like basketball, old curtains, and the likes, to make sure that no harm can be done in case the attachment loosens.

2. Use hooks

Hooks do come in handy. They can be attached almost anywhere in the garage. They can also do various functions aside from storing. They can vary in different sizes and strengths. Some hooks can hold 10-kilogram objects and more. So don’t be surprised if you see hooks bigger than your hands, they probably are made for sports equipment like bicycles.

These hooks don’t occupy as much space as other storage units. They can be installed on the side of an existing tall cabinet. They can be under the table, or even the ceiling. Using hooks will certainly help you expand your storage.

3. Go for multipurpose tools as much as possible

Because you don’t want to get bombarded with a lot of items, it is best if you go for tools which have multipurpose. This way, you can just store these kinds of tools in one place without having a hard time organising them.

However, make sure that what you are going to get are those with high quality. Multipurpose tools should be meant to last longer and work harder just like the typical ones.

How to Save Your Garage Expenses

With every upgrade and complete garage makeover, doubts about the practicality of spending on those would resurface once the project is done. This especially happens when the expectations of owners are not met. Also, first timers encounter this kind of situation compared to those who have had makeovers before because they would already know the things which should be avoided.

If you are still in the process of planning the big change, you may want to consider the following to save garage expenses:

1. Invest on high quality materials

The reason why frequent repairs and replacements happen for most of our items is because we initially bought those with less quality materials. That is what we do thinking that we can save much and that we can compromise our convenience with materials that are very vulnerable.

However, we always fail at that. When we are in a rush, we suddenly forget our resolve of using our tools and items as carefully as we can to prevent tearing. They would then soon break and the need for repair or replacement arises.

So if you really want to save on expenses, invest on things with high quality materials, this would spare you from inconvenience and future spending of recurring damages.

2. Stick to proper maintenance procedures

Even if your garage items, tools, and furniture units are all great, if you do not stick to proper maintenance procedures, their condition will be jeopardized. Most tips on how to maintain them properly can be asked from their installers. Some of them would also come from people who have experience of using them before.

People, whom you are closely associated with, who own garages, are very good resources in knowing how to keep the high quality of your items last long. The simple rule of whether using soap or oil on one item, can have a big effect on the usability of those things.

3. Using garage items appropriately

Most of our garage items are specifically designed to do certain functions. But when we are busy doing something, we tend to get lazy in getting appropriate tools pertaining to our project, and we end up utilizing those which are near our reach.

Use garage items according to their function. This will not only make your garage more organised, but also prolong their life with functions maximised. You would also be able to push yourself become more specific, being stripped off with laziness.

Initial Preparations to Make Before Complete Garage Makeover

To end altogether your garage issues and concerns, the best way is to go for a complete garage makeover. Because some can offer this solution in a package, you can expect that this is much cheaper compared to those that will do it step-by-step. In addition, it would make the area’s availability sooner than the usual.

But of course, going there should not be prematurely decided. Otherwise, you might end up feeling incomplete or unsatisfied along the way. Therefore, you should make preparations that would at least include the following:

1. Have a ballpark figure on how much it would cost you

You surely do not want to waste time and money, right? Having a ballpark figure on your makeover expenses would help you to know how long it would take for your contractor to finish the project. This should also help you know how much you should be adding to your budget if it is not enough.

When you have an estimated cost, you can be assured that your garage would not be left hanging due to financial constraints.

2. Try to do the things you can do on your own

You do not always have to rely on your contractor. Before even contacting them, you should already know what you want for your garage, and the things that should be improve therein.

Try doing things which you can do on your own. This will hasten your garage project as you do not have to spend a lot of time with an evaluation process.

3. Browse designs over the internet

If you need help in choosing a theme, you can always rely on the internet. It has a rich resource of professional articles and photographs from real garages. You do not really have to copy everything you see. Just get some ideas and you can combine them with other theme ideas until you can get one which would satisfy you.

4. Call a friend for contractor contacts or connections

Getting the right contractor is the critical point here. Even if you have a great theme, but your contractor will not be able to carry it out, you will not be satisfied.

Instead of checking contractors in the area one by one, you can ask your friends for recommendation. Surely they don’t want you to fail in your makeover so they will recommend one who is trusted even by them.

Things that Would Never Happen in Complete Garage Makeover

It is a requirement that you do your own research before even considering going for a complete garage makeover. Otherwise, you will end up with higher expectations than the actual results. After all, there are things that would never happen should you decide to go for it.

But that doesn’t mean that garage contractors are inadequate or unable to handle your preferences. It’s just that it is important that everything has to stay in the bounds of reality, allowing the almost impossible to still be done as well. Below are some of the things that would never happen for sure:

1. Increase in total floor area

Makeover primarily is done in the limited space you previously owned. When additional floor area is considered, that would then become a construction project, which by law would require licensing and permitting dues and application in order to push through. Still, you’re not at a loss with this innovation since the experts in this field will exercise all their capabilities and resources in order to come up with something very creative given a limited possibility.

2. Jeopardy of life during and after construction

Again, since makeover is not construction in nature, jeopardy of life is not an issue. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to bother filing for insurances should somebody you hired work on it. This in turn would free up additional financial capacity that would allow you to maximize all efforts and needs to beautify your garage.

3. Loss of any property

As long as you hire a professional contractor to do the garage facelift, there is a certainty that any of your stockpiled property will never get lost or missing. No matter how small or large, cheap or expensive, beautiful or ugly it can be, they would not lay a hand on it as long as it is none of their business. Still, if you want to be so sure about it, then you can have somebody watch over them as they do their professional service.

4. Customer dissatisfaction

Who among the professional service companies out there are in the right mind to dissatisfy their customer for any reason? As long as they remain dedicated in what they do, then the time that they would not act in accord with what’s planned is prevented. Just remember to give them their necessary dues and acknowledgement to keep them boosted and excited in doing their work.

Recommended Materials for Garage Flooring

Even if they are old-fashioned, garages that are well-maintained would surely be of use to you. However, if it is pretty obvious that it can no longer sustain your needs, then that’s the time that you consider doing some overhaul. You can start by that time on garage flooring, since it is the one that takes most of the beating.

In addition, it is also the part of the garage that easily gets messed and disordered. Care for them is possible as long as the right material was already specified for renovation or construction works. In most cases, the following flooring materials best fit for the job:

1. Resin

If you want to find the ultimate flooring for your garage, look for one which is resistant to scratches, oils, greases, and cleaning solutions. Resin flooring is one of the few ones. This is also great for those who want to get new flooring the soonest possible because it can be used by the end of the day after an installation.

It dries fast and solidifies fast which make it usable hours after the installation. It is also easy to clean with mop. You do not need to use a lot of cleaning solution to it since stains do not stick on it. You can also choose different colors for your resin flooring since it is very customizable.

2. Concrete

Concrete is the flooring widely used by many owners. Other types of flooring may be superior to it in many ways but it is the most affordable way to groom your garage.

If you do not mess a lot in your garage, this is a good option since you do not have anything to be caring about. However, you have to mop it with lots of water at least twice a month to make sure that any stain-causing dripping are avoided.

You can also use it as your subflooring anytime you want to get new flooring for your garage.

3. Synthetic Granite Tiles

If you own cars of regular sizes, it is not bad at all to get synthetic granite tiles. They really look like you have had your flooring with granite which is a big plus if you want to make your garage look interesting.

The smoothness and shine of synthetic granite tiles would absolutely fit luxury cars, or even make the other things in your garage look expensive and of high quality.

Additional Garage Maintenance

There are different ways to maintain the orderliness after a garage makeover. Most of them are focused on doors and flooring. There are small things which are mostly overlooked but would contribute a lot to a comfortable and safe garage.

You may wonder why some garage items gets bad faster even if you have done most of the basic care. Observation and common sense are two important things that you should consider always when it comes to your garage. Below are some additional reminders when it comes to maintenance:

1. Don’t place heavy things above your storage cabinets

Have you had problems with cabinet doors that do not close or which are very hard to open? You would agree that the first time you notice this kind of problem was when you were looking for something very important. We tend to miss this kind of details in our storage cabinets, and may also be left unattended for a while.

If you have observed carefully, the reason why the doors are difficult is because there are heavy things above those cabinets. The weight of those things tends to push the doors to each other. As much as possible, put the heavy items on the flooring or storage units which are closer to the floor.

2. Clean your fans and filters frequently

If you want to maintain a good flow of air in your garage, clean your fans and filters frequently. Even if you have 3 big fans but all of the propellers are bound with dusts and web, they will not be able to cool the area the way you expect them to be.

Clean your fans, filters, and propellers by using wet cloth with soap. The soap would also kill bacteria causing organisms that may be distributed once your fans operate again. Make sure that you dry them before turning them.

3. Keep pointed items and storage units above person’s height

There are cases when owners of the garage themselves hurt their eyes because of sharp and pointed objects in the area. Even if you were the one who installed those, it does not mean that you would be able to recall their locations always. This is especially true if you are in hurry, or when the lights are flickering.

Prevent accidents from happening by keeping or placing pointed items and storage units such as hooks above your height, or the average height of a person.

Efficient Garage Ceiling Storage Solutions

Are you losing enough space at home? Is expansion not a good option to do? If that is the case, then you can probably go back to the garage and check how it can help. After all, there are very state-of-the-art garage ceiling storage solutions which promotes efficiency and cost-effectiveness at the same time.

Applying this would guarantee more than desired additional space, allowing you to make more for yourself. In addition, it can also boost your storage system at home and its aesthetic features as well. As long as they are properly placed and used, the following solutions would definitely be maximized:

1. Elevated racks

Cabinets as storage units occupy a lot of space in the garage. This is the reason why we have to carefully choose the items that we would be placing there. If you are having issues putting all your important items all together in cabinets to make sure you are protected, some of them might get broken.

Elevated racks or those which are attached to the ceiling would be the best storage unit to have whether you have a big or small space if you want to have a huge working area. Just make sure that you are attaching your racks on the safest spots of your ceiling.

2. Pins and hooks

Small as they are pins and hooks can also become storage auxiliaries. To make sure all the short manuals, notes, reminders, and the likes do not just scatter anywhere, use pins to attach them to the board.

Hooks on the other hand are very handy especially if you do not have a lot of heavy things. Your working gloves, brooms, keys, and even water hose can be accommodate by hooks as long as its strength allows them to.

3. Hangers, ropes, and wires
Hangers are not only used for clothes, they can also be used for ropes and wires. They are very easy to use and can be placed anywhere. They are also one of the less expensive storage units.

The good thing is they are available almost anywhere, even in your own home. Ordinary clothes hanger from the laundry can do. The wires or ropes will be rolled properly and hanged on the arms of the hanger. You just have to make sure that the nail, bar or stick where you are hanging them are strong enough to resist the pulling force of the items.

Reasons Why You Should Pursue a Complete Garage Makeover

In pursuing home improvement, you can actually go for a complete garage makeover as an alternative. However, there are just certain factors which could disallow you to actually push for it, and one probability is because you still find it serviceable even in its very awful condition. That’s why you need very important reasons on as to why this has to be done for your home improvement schemes.

Of course, these reasons should not simply satisfy aesthetic needs. Especially if that is the governing reason as discussed to the household, all of the efforts will be put to waste and everything will come back from scratch. Some of the justifiable reasons why you should go for it now are as follows:

1. Time to attend to the garage is not a guarantee

You do not have all the time in the world especially if you have a lot of responsibilities. There will always come a time when you are not able to attend to things that do not have direct impact on you or on your daily activities. This especially happens when children or more children would come to the family.

The effect of a complete makeover for your garage would last long, even years. You certainly will have no regret after spending on this because it is actually an investment, not just for money but also time.

2. Further disorganization could lead to its unserviceable state

When we see the petty things that are breaking in the garage, we often just take them for granted. We let them go. We do not realize that they will just actually accumulate together with the others until it is too late for us to mend all of them.

Further disorganization really leads to unserviceable state in our garage. And having an overall makeover would solve the issue.

3. Driving the pests out would become very complicated to do

There are pests that are thriving in your garage, you just don’t know. This is evident by the small chips of wood that are found on the flooring, wings of little insects, and even tiny black secretions. When we do not check the overall situation of our garage, they will eventually multiply.

By the time that we want to drive them away, we may already have a hard time to do it. As early as now, you can check their hiding places, their colonies if there are, or their passages before a general makeover is done to your garage.

The Best Alternatives for Complete Garage Makeover

There is no hiding in the fact that complete garage makeover looks very expensive to pursue. As a matter of fact, it would also take a longer duration to finish, leaving you with nothing to park your car properly after usage. Still, when the opportunity that this can be done, this innovation can become very beneficial on your part as long as you find temporary solutions on the potential issues that could arise.

Speaking of temporary solutions, there are different means and ways on how to slowly get to a complete makeover are already formulated so that there would be minimal discomfort expected as these works are being pushed through. At first, you might thought that these services are but a part of a bigger package, but as you get to see how it is done, it would make you feel very satisfied knowing that you have it done in small details. Below are some of the following:

1. Storage Improvement Services

Improvement on storage units does not mean to buy new ones. If they are made of wood, then it would be very easy to repaint them with another color. If the hinges are broken, or the locks, all you have to do is replace them. If there aren't enough dividers, then you just have to add some boards in them. Certainly, there has a lot of ways to improve them.

But if the main body of storage unit has really gone bad, then you are left with the choice of getting a new one. Be particular with durability and the strength of the unit that you are going to get so that you won’t have to buy again and again.

2. Flooring Solutions

One of the most neglected parts of the garage is the flooring. Contractor service companies offer different package regarding your flooring according to your needs. If there is a heavy traffic in your garage almost always, you need to get the most durable material for flooring. On the other hand, if you just use it once or twice in 2 weeks, ordinary flooring would do.

3. Ceiling and Ventilation Works

There is a great feeling when you know that what you are breathing is fresh air. Improve your garage ceiling and ventilation works. Make sure that the ceiling’s design would be able to accommodate accessories that you might use in improving ventilation.

If ever you are going to change the boards, go for the durable ones so you won’t have to change them from time to time.

The Secret to a Quality and Complete Garage Makeover

If your goal is to make sure that you have a quality and complete garage makeover, the first thing that you have to develop is a meticulous character so that everything is properly taken into consideration. However, before doing so, it is an imperative that one understands which areas among the garage should go into a facelift. Otherwise, it would just be a total waste of money.

As long as these things are done beforehand, then there would be no problems in further assessing what works should be done to get the desired quality and completeness. Usually, the following are what you look into so that you don’t go way off the mark:

1. The flooring
Your garage’s flooring is probably the dirtiest part because all spoils, dirt, liquid substances fall down on it. You may find a lot of stains and marks which make it look unhygienic. So giving your flooring a lift would do so much difference on the entire garage.

You may want to change the color or the design if you want to see a big change. But if you are not into aesthetics, changing the material used for a better one is best. For example, you may want to upgrade your concrete flooring into resin. That would cost a little higher but surely you will achieve satisfaction throughout your use.

2. The walls
Most issues we deal with the walls of the garage are punctures. They are caused by hooks, screws, and other devices or accessories that are used to hold cabinets, and other storage units. Scratches can also be seen due to careless moving of furniture which has sharp edges.

Painting the walls is the first thing that can be done. But if you have those holes on them, try to fill them first. Your contractor might use cement, cast, and other filling materials. After that, the fillings will be sanded to even them out with the surface, and a coating of paint is added to hide marks.

3. The ceiling
You may wonder what more you can do to your garage just to look cleaner or fresher. Well, concentrate on the biggest space which view is not blocked by anything. It will lead you to your ceiling.

Examine if you see some stains. They may be caused by drippings coming from your roof. Have your roof sealed first before you do some changes to your ceilings.

Garage storage systems and components were created to change the way we use our garages today

Garages were initially built as somewhere to keep the car and other motor vehicles safe. They also served to protect the bodywork from rust and corrosion, likely to be caused by being left outside for long periods to endure the harsh weather elements.

Today many have evolved into the main storage area for the home. Too often they are filled precariously with household items which usually make them look untidy and are deemed to be unsafe. If this sounds like or resembles your garage, then it may be time to consider a garage makeover

When planning a garage makeover it make sense to know exactly what it is you want to gain from your garage space. By having a look at garage makeover companies online, you will find some great ways of altering your garage interior, whilst making the most of your garage storage space to store all your essential items safely and neatly, using the different types of garage storage components available.

Before embarking on a project like this, it’s important for you decide how much of the items currently being stored are junk and can be discarded and what is useful and therefore worth keeping. So, your starting point will be to clear out and get rid of anything that is not needed. This will probably be the most tedious part of the whole process, but as you make headway into the task you will soon realise how much better the garage starts to look for having had this clearing out process. With the clutter out of the way, not only will you be able to clearly see the items which will require storing, but you will begin to appreciate the amount of space you have at your disposal, and get a better idea for the types of garage storage equipment you will need. You can now decide on how many storage components you will need and ensure the right ones are supplied at the time of the makeover.

Choosing the right garage storage equipment is important to fit in with your needs and lifestyle. After all you may have bikes, children toys, DIY power tools, car maintenance kits etc which will all need to be stored carefully and properly. Therefore, it may be that a combination of components such as, garage cabinets, shelving, hooks and racks will provide the best storage methods for all the things you wish to store and in turn keep the garage neat and safe, so invest wisely.

These modern day garage storage systems and makeovers are designed for the purpose of revolutionising the way in which many of us use our garages. They help to make the garage more user friendly, by making it easier to find what you are looking for in a much safer environment.

Thrifty Ideas for Garage Organisation

Seeing that doing garage organisation can be quite expensive in some cases, homeowners prefer to postpone or not do it at all. As a result, the garage would keep on being in mess until some sort of a “staged accident” occurs, leading to far more bigly and unwanted expenses. So in order to satisfy both issues, one can simply resort to thrifty ideas to proceed with the organisation proper.

garage makeover

In addition to money, time and effort would also be spent wisely. As a result, these minimal efforts would result to the desirable and great outcome. The following can be done to do so:

1.    Schedule regular cleaning routines

People tend to think that their garage would look good after doing a ‘general clean-up’. They think that the big transformation would stay as it is for some time. But in truth regular cleaning is needed.

You should establish a cleaning routine and not base it on the appearance of your garage. Some would only clean when there is already little space for garage projects.

2.    Placement of hooks and bends

Even if you have storage units and devices, they do not assure you that your garage would look okay. You need to place them in strategic locations. This means that you do not place them altogether in one place.

Your hooks and bends are examples of them. They should not be located near items which could get purged or else you will have your flooring drained with solutions and chemicals.

3.    Maintaining space requirements

Space requirements are needed when setting priorities among your garage items. One side of your garage should stick to the amount of storage units that it should accommodate. Do not allow one side to continually take in more and more storage units. This would make your garage look imbalanced.

This would also help in grouping your items according to size and frequency of use.

4.    Material buying only when needed

Your garage may look like your storage, but it is technically not. You can keep several supplies when needed, but do not ever buy more than what is necessary. If you buy more and more, they will eat more space that would make your garage space smaller. When this happens, it will be hard for you to keep everything in place.

If you have a coming project, buy the supplies 3 months before as maximum, not 4 or 6 months, or more. This will help you maintain organisation in your garage and at the same time uphold quality among those supplies.

4 Things Needed for Garage Cleaning

Putting it simply, your garage is probably one of the places where cluttering and foul odours are found. This is the reason why garage organisation is needed to be done from time to time to get a more convenient and breathable environment in your garage.

Cleaning on the other hand, should be done more often like twice a week. This is to avoid piling up of dusts and the likes that would be tough to deal with if they will have to wait for the organisation activity. Below are some of the things that you need to have in your garage for this:

1.   Rugs
Buying rugs is an expensive to do when you are just cleaning. You may also consider buying new mop heads with hopes that your garage would look cleaner because of those. That is actually wrong.

Rugs can be made using your old shirts. As long as they are made mostly of cotton, they will do just like what commercial rugs do –absorb and keep liquid.  You can also use the same as your mop head by shredding them a bit before fastening them to the mop.

2.   Water
There should always be an availability of water in your garage. Cleaning would be easy if you have a faucet inside this area. The reason why there are delays is due to poor access of the source of water.

If provision of water cannot be made inside the garage, a hose would be very helpful. Also store some water using a big container in case emergency cases need it like exposure to harsh chemicals which need to be run by water immediately.

3.   Vacuum cleaner
Your vacuum cleaner is not just for the house, it is also for the garage. This is actually ideal to garages which do not have a lot of windows to help dry the area easily after a clean-up.

You can also use vacuum cleaner to dry up vehicle parts which you have cleaned. Don’t forget to use the filter to make sure that no small items would be lost.

4.   Exhaust fan
Can you imagine smelling a very strong odour in your garage? It is like suffocating yourself, and the only thing which can help you would be fresh air.

Use an exhaust fan in your garage to let the bad air out and the fresh in. It can also be used to make the area’s temperature lower on very hot days.

Maximising Your Garage Space in 4 Ways

The first reason why homeowners get garages is first security that is to secure their vehicle and some machinery. The second is space. But what happens when the pursuit of additional space is not achieved? This is where garage makeover comes in.

The idea of having a makeover is not just to make the place more attractive, but also to make it more organised, which leads to creating more space for other garage items. Below are ways on how you can maximise garage space:

     1.   Use creative storage units

Traditional storage units like big cabinets are not always necessary to keep your garage organised. They are just eating much space, especially if they are too big for the items you are storing.
Evaluate first if you can go on with your garage activities without them. If yes, you can opt to have creative storage units instead. Ceiling rack storage units, brackets, hooks, are to name a few. They all would just consume less space as they can be placed even in angles. At the same time, they look very attractive.

      2.   Let go of non-functional items

The very reason why there is a lot of cluttering in the garage is because we do not know how to let go of things. You might see that there are items which have been unused for 3 years or more, yet you still keep them. You may have kept some of them to keep good memories.
Nostalgia and emotions cannot make your garage spacious, so let go. You will soon see that your garage will look so much better without them.

      3.   Visit other’s fitted garages

To get an idea of how exactly functional garages should look like; visit other people’s fitted ones. The term ‘fitted’ means that it is fashionable, customised according to user’s needs, and gives more space for working.
Take note of the advantages of fitted garages both for workspace and budget. This will help you get a gist of how your garage should be.

       4.   Make a system

But even if you have applied the things mentioned above, it does not guarantee that the additional space you gave your garage would last.

Some homeowners would clutter again, displace storage units, and start keeping unnecessary items. Make a system for your items when you get them from the storage and when putting back. Make it a habit to maintain the orderliness of your garage.

4 Tips for a Quick Garage Makeover

How many times have you already planned to do a garage makeover, and then it did not push through? Financial issues may have stopped you as well as time constraints. But there are actually ways on how you can go on for it in less time and less budget.

Below are some ideas on how you can make your makeover fast and successful:

1. Hooks and brackets

Hooks and brackets are best open storage units for your tools which are oddly-shaped and varying sizes. Your mop, shovel, and even your bicycle are perfect for these storage units.

Make sure that your brackets and hooks are securely attached to the wall. Buy only those which can hold heavy items, so they can be used for those which are light and heavy.

2. Use baskets

If you think you do not have enough budget to get those hard plastic storage cabinets, there is no need to worry. You can still use your old shelving units by the aid of baskets. These baskets will serve as the enclosure for your items in the absence of cabinet enclosures and doors.

Your baskets may not have similar shapes, but each should fit perfectly in your shelf, enough for you to place and take it out.

3. Labels

Labelling your storage units according to the type of garage items that are in there is the most effective way towards organisation. This system does not simply end the day you did the makeover; it will help you as long as you need it.

You do not need to label all the categories of garage items available. You may only want to label those item types that you find hard to organise. Only remove it when you have already developed the habit to place and get items from their categories.

4. Shelving

Shelving is perhaps the most inexpensive way to organise your garage. It is impractical to go for wooden ones if you are just placing buckets of paint, and other garage items that have their own containers. Wire closet shelves are cheap and with less maintenance because they do not collect dusts.

Attach your wire closet shelves to your wall near other open storages like hooks and brackets for a good layout. If you are going to store soaps and oils, place them in a container that is leak-proof to prevent them from spilling off the shelf.

4 Weakest Parts of Your Garage

We may strive for perfection just like what we believe to be as seen on TV and magazines, but in truth there is no such thing. Even if a building looks high-end, you will still be able to notice some parts which should still be improved. If you are planning a garage makeover, you may as well examine the weakest parts of your garage to focus your improvement.

Do not worry; once you have strengthened these weak parts, you do not have to do it yearly. It may even take 5 years or more before you can see the need to strengthen them again.

Below are 4 of the weakest parts of your garage:

    1.   The garage door

You use your garage door every day and definitely can’t live without it. Whether it is automatic or manual, there will come a time when it would be hard to open and close it. Can you imagine how much headache will you have especially when you are in the rush? Certainly, that is not a good idea in times of emergency.

The earliest signs of a broken garage door would be the squeaking sound once it opens and closes. Another would when it would become a little hard to navigate it. The problem lies in the hinges most of the time, so focus on them.

garage flooring
     2.   The flooring

The garage flooring is also constantly used. It is where all the oils, greases, harsh chemicals, and strong impacts from heavy objects go. These are the reasons why the flooring would look bad in few months’ time.

For your makeover, invest on materials that are oil and abrasion resistant just like resin. You will then have lesser problems when dealing with it. Also choose materials that will incur you lesser maintenance to save time and cost.

garage ceiling
     3.   The ceiling

Because maximising space is now being prioritised in most makeovers, racks of different kinds are now also designed for ceilings. These should be sturdy to make sure that accidents are avoided. However, ceilings themselves can be the reason of accidents when they are weak.

To make sure they are equipped enough for your hanging racks, check the framing. If there are signs of it becoming weak like cracks, and chipping if made of wood, have it fixed right away. They may look okay from the outside, but when ceiling attachments are made, they break off easily.
